Tom Garrison is an archaeologist specializing in ancient Mesoamerica as well as GIS and remote sensing applications in archaeology. He received his PhD from Harvard University in the spring of 2007 before coming to Brown in the fall of the same year. His dissertation was based on five years of research at the Preclassic Maya site of San Bartolo, Guatemala and examined changes in landscape and politics from 1000 BC-AD 1100. Tom has also worked in San Cristóbal de las Casas (Chiapas, Mexico), the Cayo District (Belize), Copan (Honduras), and Cuauhtinchan (Puebla, Mexico). He is currently directing The Landscape Succession Project with Steve Houston and Tim Beach, as well as providing remote sensing support to the Petra Project, Jordan.
