Carrie: A local administrative group which monitored the Arabian peninsula for the Sasanians (their capital being Hira on the west bank of the Euphrates); they served as the foils to the Byzantine-backed Ghassanids.

Carrie: They were also notably ethnically Arab, and had grown very powerful by the end of the 6th century -- however, the Sassanids abolished the autonomous Lakhmid dynasty in 602 and took over direct control of the frontier.

Think about how these various groups served as a cultural bridge between the Arab tribes of Arabia and the major empires that would soon fall to the Muslims.
