Writing Assignment 2: The Monument
This is a research based paper on a selected monument from ancient Mesopotamian, Egypt, Greek or Roman worlds. Please select a monument from the list below (or you are welcome to come up with a similar one if you like) and write a short paper of 5-6 pages (not longer not shorter- double space, 12 font). While writing your paper, you are expected to read about, research and engage with at least a few of the concepts relevant to your monument, such as style, iconography, narrative, representation, symbolism, gender and sexuality, performance, appropriation, commemoration, memory, etc. in (a) the online Nelson and Schiff's Critical Terms for Art History, as well as the Grove Dictionary art (see below for the links) and other library resources.
Along with your paper, please make sure to provide appropriate illustrations of your monument and a full bibliography. Your sources need to be appropriately cited according to the Humanities Author-Date style referencing. Here is a
